Earl Sweatshirt - Earl
This song is fucking amazing…and regardless of how you feel about Odd Future and Earl Sweatshirt, good music is good music. I acknowledge the fact that much of Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt’s music isn’t all that great, but they have unarguably created a few really solid hip-hop gems. The first time I ever saw the music video for Earl it had about 50,000 views, and all I could think was “holy shit, this song is ridiculously badass and definitely deserves a lot more attention”. Well I got my wish…and a hell of a lot more. It’s gotten to the point where much of Odd Future’s music is grossly overrated by their fans, and this turns off a lot of people to their music in general. I will not defend Odd Future as a whole, but I will happily defend any song that represents the epitome of it’s hip-hop genre, such as Earl, Yonkers, and Luper.
I also deem this the best hip-hop song of all time to have been made by a 16 year old. I’ve never heard anything else that comes close.
